Calls for Service

Kingston Police had 111 calls for service during the 24 hour period starting from 5:00 a.m. on August 28, 2017. Of these, 69 calls occurred in the city central area, 23 in the west end, 6 in the east end, and 3 north of Highway 401. Some of these included:

  • 2 harassment calls
  • 2 fight/disturbance calls
  • 4 undesirable calls
  • 1 custody dispute call
  • 2 alarm calls
  • 1 neighbour dispute call
  • 4 noise complaints
  • 1 missing person call
  • 2 Mental Health Act calls
  • 2 medical assist calls
  • 5 assist citizen calls
  • 4 break and enter calls
  • 12 theft calls
  • 1 shoplifting call
  • 1 mischief call
  • 2 fraud calls
  • 5 motor vehicle collisions
  • 1 parking/vehicle complaint
  • 2 driving complaints
  • 1 traffic concern
  • 8 suspicious activity calls
  • 2 trespass/prowler calls
  • 2 drug calls

There were 3 men arrested within the last 24 hours, between 21 and 28 years of age, for the following: break and enter and mischief, fail to appear, impaired driving and operating a vehicle with over 80 mg of alcohol.

Motorcyclist in Critical Condition after Collision at Highway 2 and 15

On August 28, 2017 at approximately 9:15 p.m. a collision occurred between a motorcycle and van at the intersection of Highway 2 and Highway 15.

The motorcycle was traveling westbound on Highway 2 within the intersection when a van traveling eastbound on Highway 2 made a left turn in front of the motorcycle.

The motorcycle was driven by a 22-year-old Kingston area man who was rushed to the hospital and remains in critical condition.

The van was driven by a 36-year-old man from New York State. The occupants of the van were not injured. The driver was charged under the Highway Traffic for turn not in safety.

A Kingston Police Collision Reconstructionist was called out and the road was closed until approximately 9:45 a.m. on August 29 for the investigation.

Man Caught Driving Impaired on a Power Assisted Bicycle

A 43-year-old local man has been arrested for impaired driving on his modified power assisted bicycle after he sped by a traffic officer.

On August 27, 2017 at approximately 4:00 p.m. the accused was riding a power assisted bicycle southbound on Montreal Street. A traffic officer observed the accused make a turn onto John Counter Boulevard and take off at a rate of speed above the regulated 32 km/h for that vehicle.

The officer noted the bicycle was equipped with extra batteries some unsecure and just sitting between the accused feet. The officer stopped the bicycle and made observations the accused was intoxicated by alcohol.

The accused was arrested and transported to police headquarters where he provided two breath samples. The accused was found to have approximately 2 times the legal limit of alcohol in his system.

The accused was charged with impaired driving and operating a vehicle with over 80 mg of alcohol. The accused was additionally charged under the Highway Traffic Act with power assisted bicycle offences including not in good working, fail to wear proper helmet, electric terminals not covered, and battery not securely fastened.

The accused was later released on a Promise to Appear (PTA) with a future court date. The accused was unlicenced but he is automatically suspended for 90 days from obtaining a licence to drive and would face a one year suspension from driving if convicted.

Two Arrested after Failed Break and Enter

A 21-year-old man and a 24-year-old man both from Inverary have been arrested after a failed attempt break into a home to assault a youth.

On August 23, 2017 Kingston Police responded to a glass break at a west end residence. The responding officer found the outer window pane smashed and signs of attempted entry at the front door. An investigation revealed the identities of two males and two females that had arrived in a pickup truck. The males had been seen running from the residence and then leaving in the truck. The investigating officer learned the males had attended the address with the intent of assaulting a youth they had a grudge with. The group was also linked to multiple recent nuisance incidents in the west end.

On August 28, 2017 at approximately 8:30 a.m. the 21-year-old was located at his workplace. He was arrested and the vehicle was seized. At 11:00 a.m. the 24-year-old was located at an address in Inverary and arrested.

Both accused were transported to police headquarters where they were held to attend a bail hearing.

Both accused were charged with break and enter and mischief.
