Calls for Service

Kingston Police had 385 calls for service over the weekend of June 8-11, 2018. Of these, 275 calls occurred in the city central area, 92 in the west end, 10 in the east end, and 8 north of Highway 401. Some of these included:

  • 10 fight/disturbance calls
  • 14 undesirable calls

  • 3 missing person calls
  • 1 Mental Health Act call
  • 7 medical assist calls
  • 36 assist citizen calls
  • 3 break and enter calls
  • 19 theft calls
  • 5 shoplifting calls
  • 8 mischief calls
  • 5 fraud calls
  • 11 motor vehicle collisions
  • 2 impaired driving calls
  • 5 parking/vehicle complaints
  • 17 driving complaints
  • 1 traffic concern
  • 26 suspicious activity calls
  • 1 trespass/prowler call
  • 2 drug calls

There were 18 individuals arrested over the weekend of June 8-10, 2018 including 13 men and 5 women, between 16 and 55 years of age, for the following: three counts of assault, utter threats to cause death, two counts of theft, two counts of possession of stolen property, six counts of mischief, assault with a weapon, dangerous operation of a motor vehicle, leave accident scene, theft over $5000, mischief, arson, sexual interference with a person under 16, sexual assault, possession of a controlled substance for the purpose of trafficking, possession of break-in tools, breach undertaking, three counts of breach recognizance, and six counts of breach probation. Three persons were arrested on warrants.

To further community awareness and improve accessibility to calls-for-police-service occurring in the community, Kingston Police has merged Geographic Information Systems (GIS) technology with police calls-for-service data for user-friendly public consumption.

Children Being Approached by Stranger Offering Candy

Kingston Police wish to notify the public of information regarding two recent incidents involving a man approaching young children and offering them candy. In both incidents the man offered candy if the children went with him to his white van, however no van was actually seen. Reports are conflicting to some degree, however in one incident that occurred in a park off Curtis Crescent, the male was described as white, in his 20’s, 5’8”, average build, dark brown past the shoulder hair, and wearing dark clothing.

Driver Runs Down Skateboarder on Parking Lot Sidewalk

A 29-year-old local man has been charged after he accelerated through a busy parking lot to run down a skateboarder on the sidewalk.

On June 7, 2018 at approximately 3:00 p.m. the victim was skateboarding on Weller Avenue near Compton Street, when the accused drove by yelling at him. The victim watched as the accused then made a U-turn and came back towards him. When the victim fled on foot the accused accelerated after him, driving through a busy strip mall parking lot and up onto the concrete sidewalk. The victim was struck by the vehicle and knocked to the ground, suffering minor injuries as a result. The accused then backed up and sped out of the parking lot.

The accused was not located at that time, but investigating officers learned he was an unlicensed driver. On June 9, 2018, officers located the accused at an address on Weller Avenue, he was arrested and his motor vehicle was seized.

The accused was transported to police headquarters where he was held to attend a bail hearing the following day.

The accused was charged with assault with a weapon, dangerous operation of a motor vehicle, leave accident scene, and breach probation. The accused was additionally charged under the Highway Traffic Act with drive no licence.

Man Charged with Sexual Against Stepdaughter

A 34-year-old local man is facing assault, and sexual assault charges in relation to his teenage stepdaughter.

On June 3, 2018 the Kingston Police Sexual Assault and Child Abuse unit began an investigation and learned the accused became hostile with the victim when she started dating. In one incident in the fall of 2017, the accused struck the victim across the mouth when he found her walking with a boy. The blow caused the victim to fall to the ground and suffer injury, however the incident was not reported to police at that time. Recently, in the months of March and April 2018 the accused began entering the victim’s bedroom and sexually assaulting her in the early morning hours.

On June 8, 2018 the accused located and arrested. He was transported to police headquarters where he was held to attend a bail hearing the following day.

The accused was charged with assault, sexual interference with a person under 16, and sexual assault.

Auto Thief Caught after Damaging another Vehicle

A 30-year-old local woman was charged with auto theft after she ripped the door handle off a vehicle.

On June 8, 2018 at approximately 6:30 a.m. the accused ripped the door handle of a vehicle parked on Yonge Street and then went into a nearby residence. Officers responded and located the accused inside the residence. She was arrested for mischief, but during a search the officer found a set of keys to another vehicle. An investigation revealed the owner of the keys had lost them some time ago, and the previous evening his vehicle had been moved without his permission. When he located his vehicle, the owner found a bicycle and backpack in the back seat that belonged to the accused.

The accused was transported to police headquarters where she was held to attend a bail hearing the following day.

The accused was charged with possession of stolen property, theft over $5000, mischief, and breach probation.

Man Charged with Arson after Starting a Fire Next to Building on Division St

A 30-year-old local man is facing a charge of arson after piling trash against the wall of a building and then setting it on fire.

On June 6, 2018 at approximately 11:30 a.m. the accused piled trash beside a large plastic bin that was against the north wall of an address on Division Street. The accused then donned a breathing mask, and proceeded to light the pile of fire. The accused put the fire and then left the area when residents began yelling at him.

On June 9, 2018 the accused was located and arrested. He was transported to police headquarters where he was held to attend a bail hearing the following day.

The accused was charged with arson, and breach probation.

Woman Charged for Damaging 6 Parked Cars in Downtown Area

A 30-year-old local woman was arrested for keying six vehicles on Sunday afternoon.

On June 10, 2018 at approximately 4:30 p.m. the accused was walking along the sidewalk on Princess Street in the downtown area. The accused keyed the side of a motor vehicle as she walked by and then crossed the street to the south sidewalk where she continued keying vehicles as she passed. Witnesses called police and responding officers located the accused sitting at a table in a nearby downtown bar. Officers learned the accused had keyed six vehicles in total.

The accused was arrested and during a search officers founds two keys, one that was bent. The accused was transported to police headquarters and later released with a future court date.

The accused was charged with six counts of mischief.

Early Morning Suspicious Person Stop, Ends in Drug Trafficking Charges

A 37-year-old local man is facing numerous charges after a patrol officer observes suspicious behaviour and stops to question it.

On June 11, 2018 at approximately 2:45 a.m. a patrol officer observed the accused male exit a cab with a female party at a west end hotel. Both were carrying bags with flashlights attached and the male also had gloves in his possession. Due to several recent reports of vehicle break-ins the officer decided to investigate the two and discovered the male was on conditions not to possess any tools commonly associated with break and enters. The officer could see a knife in the male’s bag that had a metal point on one end which is commonly used to smash windows. A search of the bag revealed several additional break-in tools including bolt cutters, vice grips, and a hacksaw. Also found was a quantity of suspected crystal methamphetamine packaged in several small bags, as well as scales, and pipes.

The male was arrested and transported to police headquarters where he was held to attend a bail hearing the following day.

The accused was charged with possession of a controlled substance for the purpose of trafficking, possession of break-in tools, and three counts of breach recognizance.
