Queen’s Students’ Weekend Arrival

Release Date: September 3, 2018

On Saturday September 1, approximately 4500 Queen’s students moved into their new residences. The students and their families began arriving early to get settled in. Queen’s Security, Kingston Police and volunteers were on site to assist with the traffic flow. An accident on eastbound Highway 401 caused some late arrivals, making for a very busy afternoon. From all accounts, it was a well-organized and smoothly run event.

Both Saturday and Sunday night were very busy on University Avenue. Extra duty officers worked to keep pedestrians moving along and off of the roadway. For the most part, despite the size of the crowd, students were well behaved. Police did lay some charges but the exact tally will be released on Tuesday.

Police continue to patrol the Queen’s area on the Holiday Monday to ensure laws are being followed.
