THEFTS OF BATTERIES FROM HEAVY MACHINERY
(ALFRED-PLANTAGENET, ON) – The Hawkesbury Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) is investigating a series of thefts of batteries from heavy machinery reported within the past few weeks.
These incidents have occurred in rural areas, farmland and construction sites in our region, more precisely in the Nation and the Alfred-Plantagenet Townships. Heavy machinery such as excavators, tractors and construction equipment was targeted.
The investigation revealed that some of the places victimized were at risk. The Hawkesbury OPP wishes to remind you that everyone has a role in crime prevention and in reducing the potentials of criminal acts.
The way to discourage a thief from victimizing your property is to take away the opportunities. Owners are advised to be particularly vigilant when leaving their equipment at construction sites or even on private properties. Extra precautionary measures should be considered such as securing the equipment and of course, leaving machinery in well-lit area, preferably visible to motorists and neighbours. The use of hunting cameras installed in proximity could assist police in a theft investigation.
If you have any information about this matter, please contact Detective Constable Steve Hamel at the Hawkesbury O.P.P. Detachment at 613-632-2729
