OPP Regional Round Up for Tuesday June 2, 2015 #OPP

DRUGS SEIZED AT TRAFFIC STOP

(South Dundas) – On June 1, 2015 at approximately 9:57am, a Stormont, Dundas & Glengarry (SD&G) Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) officer intercepted a vehicle on Highway 401, South Dundas Township. The stop resulted in the seizure of a quantity of suspected marihuana, ecstasy (MDMA) pills and assorted false identity documents.

The male driver, Makambo MOLE (32) of Montreal, Quebec was arrested and is charged with;

– Possession of a Controlled Substance (2 counts)
– False Identity Documents (6 counts)

He was released and scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Morrisburg on August 4, 2015.

 

THEFT OF CONSTRUCTION SIGNS

(South Dundas) – On June 1, 2015 at approximately 7:39am, SD&G OPP responded to a report of theft of construction signs from a site located on County Road 8, South Dundas Township. Investigation indicated that over the weekend (May 29-31, 2015), 30 wooden signs were taken.

An investigation continues.

IMPAIRED DRIVERS

(Champlain, ON)  In the late afternoon of Thursday May 23rd, shortly after 4:30 pm, Constable Michael Roy intercepted a green Chevrolet pick-up truck on Hamil Street in Vankleek Hill for an expired validation tag on the vehicle’s licence plate.

Interaction with the driver gave the officer reason to believe that the driver was operating his motor vehicle with a blood alcohol content over 80 mgs.  The investigation revealed that the driver could not give proof that the vehicle was insured.

Consequently, the driver, James RENWICK (54 yrs) of Alfred-Plantagenet, was arrested and charged under the Criminal Code of Canadawith section 253(1)(b) Driving with More than 80 mgs. of Alcohol in Blood.

He charged under the Compulsory Automobile Insurance Act with section 2(1)(a) Operate a motor vehicle without insurance.

The driver was also charged under the Highway Traffic Act with section 7(1)(a) Drive motor vehicle, no currently validated permit

He was later released and scheduled to appear at court on June 10th, 2015 in L’Orignal.

(Hawkesbury, ON) In the early morning of May 30th, shortly after after 1 am, Constables Jonathan Bouchard and Leslie Hahn were conducting a RIDE checkpoint on John Street in the Town of Hawkesbury when they intercepted a black 2010 Mazda 3.

Interaction with the driver gave the officer reason to believe that the driver was operating her motor vehicle with a blood alcohol content over 80 mgs.  An open can of beer was also found in the vehicle.

Consequently, the driver, Jacinthe DESFORGES (31 yrs) of Brownsburg-Chatham , was arrested and charged under the Criminal Code of Canada with section 253(1)(b) Driving with More than 80 mgs. of Alcohol in Blood.

She was also charged under the Liquor Licence Act with 32(1) Driving a motor vehicle with an open container of liquor.

She was later released and scheduled to appear at court on June 10th, 2015 in L’Orignal.

DAYTIME BREAK INS STILL A FAVORITE FOR CROOKS

(Hawkesbury, ON) The Hawkesbury OPP Detachment has investigated a series of daytime break-ins in the last week.

Sandy Hill Road (Champlain)

On May 28th, a Sandy Hill residence was broken in between 2:00 and 2:30 pm as the residents were gone for 30 minutes.  Someone entered the residence by breaking in via a back door.

The place was searched quickly and jewelry was stolen, including a Hawkesbury Police Service ladie’s Bulova gold watch with the Town of Hawkesbury logo on the face of the watch.

County Road 10 (East-Hawkesbury)

On that same day, a County Road 10 residence in East-Hawkesbury was also broken into.   Someone broke in via a back door.

Money and jewelry were stolen from the residence.  The theft was noticed when the owner arrived home later that afternoon.

Cassburn Road (Champlain)

On May 28th a Cassburn residence, just north of County Road 17, was broken into sometime during the day.  Entry was most likely gained through a backdoor.   Jewelry were stolen from the residence.

Allen Road (Champlain)

On May 29th, a break-in occurred at a Allen Road residence, just west of Cassburn Road.

Someone gained access to a solarium behind the residence by cutting a piece of a screen door.

A $50 Legault Greenhouse gift certificate was stolen.  The theft occurred sometime between 2:00 and 5:20 pm.

The matters are all under investigation.

(Prescott, ON.) –Members of the Prescott Detachment of the Grenville County O.P.P. responded to a total of 139 calls for service from May 18th to May 25th, 2015 inclusive.

Stolen Vehicle

On May 29, 2015 just after 7:00 pm police received a report of a stolen ATV. The 2002 Suzuki LFE, green in colour, Ontario Licence plate 39VV0 had been stolen from a residence on County Rd. 44 in Edwardsburgh/Cardinal Township. The theft occurred sometime between 1:15 pm and 7:00 pm. The investigation is ongoing.

Mischief

On May 28, 2015 at 8:00 am it was reported to police that a front leader had been damaged while parked on Buckwheat Rd. It was learned that sometime between 6:30 pm on the 26th and 0800 on the 28th an orange caterpillar front loader model 950F had all its windows broken and a fire extinguisher had been emptied inside the cab. Further the gate to the gravel pit which was usually locked was open and the chain cut. Ident attended the scene and evidence was obtained. Investigation is ongoing.

Town of Prescott – Torch Run

The Law enforcement Torch run/walk will take place on Thursday June 04, 2015 in the Town of Prescott.

The run/walk will begin at the Parking Lot behind Walker House on King St at approx. 11:00 am. It will make its way east along King St. to Edward St. and North on Edward St. to Prescott Centre Drive, ending at O’Reilly’s Independent Grocer, 150 Prescott Centre Drive.

There will be fund raising BBQ at this location sponsored by O’Reilly’s Your Independent Grocer with all proceeds going to the Special Olympics.

(RUSSELL COUNTY, ON) In the week of May 25, 2015 to June 1, 2015, Russell County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to 258 occurrences. Among those occurrences OPP responded to 20 collisions, 4 thefts and 7 domestics.

As a result of those occurrences, 46 people were charged with various offences.

Break and Enter

(Casselamn, ON)  On May 26, 2015 OPP Constables responded to break and enter at the Youth Center on Brebeuf Street in Casselman. At that location it was reported that suspect(s) had forced their way into the building and left with electronic items and food. OPP investigated the incident and the investigation led to the arrest of two young persons.

 

A 14 year old male from North Stormont Township will have to appear in L’Orignal youth court on June 17, 2015 to answer to the following charges:

CC 355(b) Possession Property Obtained by Crime Under $5,000

CC 348(1)(b) Break, Enter a place – commit indictable offence

A 16 year old male, from Casselman will have to appear in L’Orignal youth court on June 17, 2015 to answer to the following charges:

Breach of Probation

(Casselman, ON)  On May 27, 2015 OPP Constables responded to bail violation incident at L’Academie de la Seigneurie School in Casselman. At that location it was

reported that a male was seen on school property without having permission to be there. OPP investigated the complaint and concluded that the male had committed an offence.

Jonathan BASS-CAYER, 18 years old from Casselman will be appearing for a bail hearing on June 2, 2015 to answer to the following charge:

CC 145(3) Fail to Comply with Undertaking

Assault

(Casselman, ON)  On May 27, 2015 OPP Constables responded to an assault complaint on Principale Street in Casselman. At that location a witness observed a male and female arguing. OPP attended the location and spoke to everyone involved and concluded that a female had committed some offences:

A 21 year old female, from Casselman will have to appear in L’Orignal court on June 10, 2015 to answer to the following charges:

CC 266 Assault – Spousal

CC 430(4) Mischief – Domestic

CC 811 Breach of Recognizance

Mischief

(Embrun, ON)  On May 29, 2015 OPP Constables arrested a male for a liquor violation and detained him at the Embrun OPP detachment. While in custody the male caused damages to the sprinkler system in the prison cell.

Jean-Pierre PEPIN, 51 years old from Casselman, will have to appear in L’Orignal court on June 15, 2015 to answer to the following charge:

CC 430(4) Mischief Under $ 5,000

Weapon

(Limoges, ON)   On May 30, 2015 OPP Constable Marc Gadbois stopped a truck for a traffic violation on Calypso Road in Limoges. When speaking to the driver the officer noticed an illegal weapon in the vehicle.

Sebastien ST-LOUIS, 18 years old, from Clarence-Rockland will have to appear in L’Orignal court on July 29, 2015 to answer to the following charge:

CC 91(2) Unauthorized Possession of Weapon

Drugs

(Rockland, ON)  On May 30, 2015 OPP Constable Mike Cunning was on patrol on County Road 17 in Rockland when he stopped a vehicle for speeding. While investigating the matter the officer came across some illicit drugs.

Eric R. DUPUIS, 27 years old from Alfred-Plantagenet will have to appear in L’Orignal court on June 24, 2015 to answer to the following charge:

CDSA 4(1) Poss of a Schedule II substance- Cannabis Marihuana – under 30grams

The driver was also issued a provincial part 3 summons and will have to appear in L’Orignal traffic court for the following offence:

HTA 53(1) Driving while under suspension

Threats

(Bourget, ON) On May 31, 2015 OPP Constables responded to a threat complaint on Bouvier Road in Bourget area. At that location it was reported that a male and female were involved in an argument and that at one point the male hade made threats towards the female. The officers investigated the matter and concluded that an offence had been committed.

A 45 year old male, from Clarence-Rockland will have to appear in L’Orignal court on June 17, 2015 to answer to the following charge:

CC 264.1(1)(b) Uttering Threats – Damage Property

BREACH OF CONDITION

(South Stormont) – On May28, 2015 at approximately 6:22pm, Stormont, Dundas & Glengarry (SD&G) Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a report of an adult male in contravention of a non-communication condition imposed from a previous domestic related incident. The breach incident occurred at a property on College Street, South Stormont Township.

A 33-year-old male from South Stormont Township was arrested and charged with;

– Fail to Comply with an Undertaking

He was held in custody pending an appearance (bail) at the Ontario Court of Justice in Cornwall today (June 1, 2015). The name of the accused is being withheld in order to protect the identity of the victim.

(North Dundas) – On May 29, 2015 at approximately 10:41am, SD&G OPP officers responded to a disturbance at a residence on Moffat Street, North Dundas Township. Investigation indicated that an adult male was acting in a disruptive manner. Upon his arrest, the male became assaultive towards officers.

Jessie QUESNEL (21) of North Dundas Township is charged with;

– Assault Peace Officer (3 counts)
– Fail to Comply with Probation Order/Recognizance (3 counts/1 count)
– Utter Threats

He was held in custody pending an appearance (bail) at the Ontario Court of Justice in Cornwall today (June 1, 2015).

 

THEFTS

(North Glengarry) – On May 29, 2015 at approximately 9:41am, SD&G OPP responded to a report of theft of goats from a property on Dalkeith Road, North Glengarry Township. Investigation indicated that overnight (May 28-29, 2015) culprit(s) entered a barn and removed eight (8) goats.
An investigation continues.
(South Stormont) – On May 31, 2015 at approximately 8:36am, SD&G OPP responded to a report of the theft of a trailer from a property on Dixon Road, South Stormont Township. Investigation indicated that overnight (May 30-31, 2015) culprit(s) removed a black 1969 “Ferg” single axle snowmobile trailer.

An investigation continues.
