SEARCH WARRANT EXECUTED IN RUSSELL

(RUSSELL, ON) – On February 13th, 2019, members of the Organized Crime Enforcement Bureau – Community Street Crime Unit (CSCU) executed a Search Warrant in the Township of Russell with the assistance of the Tactics and Rescue Unit (TRU).

Investigators seized four firearms, ammunition, and a small quantity of Percocet (oxycodone) and Hydromorphone pills from the residence.   

Celine ONAT, aged 26 from Russell, Ontario was arrested and charged with the following:

  • Possession of a substance in Schedule 1 (Percocet) C.D.S.A. Section 4(1)
  • Possession of a substance in Schedule 1 (Hydromorphone) C.D.S.A Section 4(1)
  • Four counts of Unauthorized Possession of a Firearm – CC 91(1)  
  • Four counts of Careless Storage of Firearm, Weapon, Prohibited Device or Ammunition – CC 86(1)  

The accused was released on a Promise to Appear and is scheduled to appear in the Ontario Court of Justice in L’Orignal on March 6, 2019.

The investigation is continuing, one arrest is still pending. The OPP have no concerns for public safety at this time.




UPDATE #1 – SEARCH WARRANT EXECUTED IN RUSSELL

Second person arrested and charged

  • Possession of a substance in Schedule 1 (Hydromorphone) C.D.S.A Section 4(1)
  • Four counts of Unauthorized Possession of a Firearm – CC 91(1)  
  • Four counts of Careless Storage of Firearm, Weapon, Prohibited Device or Ammunition – CC 86(1)  

Both accused were released on a Promise to Appear and are scheduled to appear in the Ontario Court of Justice in L’Orignal on March 6, 2019.

BREACH

Cornwall, ON – Adam Jodoin, 35, of Cornwall was arrested February 15th, 2019 and charged with breach of undertaking for contacting a certain person. It is alleged on February 14th, 2019, the man spoke to a certain person, despite his conditions, and police were contacted to investigate. On February 15th, 2019, the man attended police headquarters to deal with the matter. He was taken into custody, charged accordingly, and held for a bail hearing.

BREACH

Cornwall, ON – Mitchell Berube, 24, of Cornwall was arrested on February 15th, 2019 and charged with breach of undertaking and breach of probation for failing to notify a change of address. It is alleged while investigating an unrelated matter on February 15th, 2019, it was learned the man had changed his address and failed to report the change to police. During the investigation, he was taken into custody, charged accordingly and released to appear in court on March 14th, 2019.

THEFT OVER & UNDER $5000

Cornwall, ON – Richard Massia, 59, and May Burgess, 50, both of Cornwall, were arrested on February 15th, 2019 and each charged with theft over $5000 and theft under $5000 x 3. It is alleged between June and July 2018, both individuals took a quantity of jewellery, a television, a computer, and decorative statues from a woman known to them without her permission. Police were contacted and an investigation ensued. On February 15th, 2019, the man and woman attended police headquarters to deal with the matter. They were taken into custody, charged accordingly, and released to appear in court on March 28th, 2019.




DOMESTIC ASSAULT

Cornwall, ON – A 28-year-old Cornwall woman was arrested on February 15th, 2019 and charged with domestic assault. It is alleged during an argument with her common-law husband, the woman assaulted him and police were contacted to investigate. During the investigation, the woman was taken into custody, charged accordingly, and released to appear in court on March 28th, 2019. Her name was not released as it would identify the victim in the matter.

MISCHIEF UNDER $5000

Cornwall, ON – Hafiz Irfan, 34, of Cornwall was arrested on February 15th, 2019 and charged with mischief under $5000. It is alleged on February 10th, 2019, the man kicked a taxi, causing damage to the motor vehicle, and police were contacted to investigate. On February 15th, 2019, the man attended police headquarters to deal with the matter. He was taken into custody, charged accordingly, and released to appear in court on February 28th, 2019.

BREACH

Cornwall, ON – William McDonald, 24, of Cornwall was arrested on February 15th, 2019 and charged with breach of recognizance for failing to abide by his curfew. He was also charged with breach of probation for failing to keep the peace. It is alleged the man was found breaching his conditions during the night of February 15th, 2019 and an investigation ensued. During the investigation, he was taken into custody, charged accordingly and held for a bail hearing.

IMPAIRED, OVER 80

Cornwall, ON – John Patenaude, 73, of Cornwall was arrested on February 16th, 2019 and charged with impaired operation of a motor vehicle and over 80. It is alleged the man was operating a motor vehicle while under the influence of alcohol in the area of Marlborough Street and Water Street and an investigation ensued. During the investigation, he was taken into custody, charged accordingly and released to appear in court on February 28th, 2019.

ARMED ROBBERY

Two males charged

(SOUTH DUNDAS,ON) – On February 18, 2019 at approximately 9:30pm, Stormont, Dundas & Glengarry (SD&G) Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) officers, with the assistance of the SD&G Crime Unit, responded to a report of an armed robbery at convenience store in the Village of Iroquois, South Dundas Township.

Investigation indicated two unknown suspects entered the store with a weapon and demanded cash. The Suspects fled the scene with a quantity of Canadian Currency and tobacco products.

No injuries resulted.

The suspects were located in the area and were arrested and charged. The two males were also charged in relation to a robbery with a weapon at the same location.

Kasey MOLSON (34) of Cardinal, Ontario was arrested and is charged with;

–             Robbery with weapon ( 2 counts)

–             Disguise with Intent ( 2 counts)

–             Possession of a weapon for dangerous purpose (2 counts)

–             Conspiracy to commit indictable offence

Travis VISSER (28) of Augusta Township, Ontario was arrested and is charged with;

–             Robbery with weapon ( 2 counts)

–             Disguise with Intent ( 2 counts)

–             Possession of a weapon for dangerous purpose (2 counts)

–             Conspiracy to commit indictable offence

Both males were held in custody (bail) and are to appear in Ontario Court of justice in Cornwall, Ontario.  

The SD&G Crime Unit continue to Investigate and no further information to be released at this time.

BREACH

Cornwall, ON – A 15-year-old Cornwall youth was arrested on February 19th, 2019 and charged with breach of recognizance for failing to attend school, as well as breach of undertaking and probation for failing to keep the peace. It is alleged the youth failed to attend school on February 19th, 2019 and police were contacted to investigate. During the investigation, the youth was taken into custody, charged accordingly and held for a bail hearing. His name was not released as per provision of the Youth Criminal Justice Act.

THEFT UNDER $5000, BREACH

Cornwall, ON – Gilles Desforges, 42, of Cornwall was arrested on February 19th, 2019 and charged with theft under $5000 and breach of probation for failing to keep the peace. It is alleged on February 9th, 2019, the man attended a Ninth Street business and removed merchandise, making no attempt to pay for the items as he left the store. Police were contacted and an investigation ensued. On February 19th, 2019, the man was taken into custody, charged accordingly, and held for a bail hearing.

DOMESTIC THREATS, BREACH

Cornwall, ON – A 48-year-old Iroquois man was arrested on February 20th, 2019 and charged with threats, and breach of recognizance for failing to reside at a certain address, as well as contacting and being within 500 metres of his common-law wife. It is alleged on February 19th, 2019, while in the company of his common-law wife, the man made threats to damage her property and police were contacted to investigate. On February 20th, 2019, the man was taken into custody, charged accordingly and held for a bail hearing. His name was not released as it would identify the victim in the matter.

WARRANT

Cornwall, ON – Adam Lauzon, 40, of Ottawa was arrested on February 20th, 2019 on the strength of a warrant. It is alleged the man failed to attend court for a fraud offence and a warrant was issued for his arrest. On February 20th, 2019, the man attended police headquarters to deal with the matter. He was taken into custody on the strength of the warrant and held for a bail hearing.

THEFT UNDER $5000, BREACH

Cornwall, ON – Jeffrey Burles, 34, of Cornwall was arrested on February 20th, 2019 and charged with theft under $5000 and breach of recognizance for attending a certain business. He was also charged with breach of probation for failing to keep the peace. It is alleged on January 5th, 2019, the man attended a Brookdale Avenue business, despite his conditions, and removed merchandise, making no attempt to pay for the item as he left the store. Police were contacted and an investigation ensued. On February 20th, 2019, a member of the Cornwall Police Service attended the courthouse as the man was in custody on an unrelated matter. He was charged accordingly and remained in custody to await a bail hearing.

WARRANTS

Cornwall, ON – Kristen Burnell, 21, of Cornwall was arrested on February 20th, 2019 on the strength of multiple warrants. It is alleged in January 2019, the woman took cheques belonging to a man known to her without his permission. It is further alleged the woman failed to attend court on January 31st, 2019 and warrants were issued for her arrest. On February 20th, 2019, police located the woman. She was taken into custody on the strength of the warrants and held for a bail hearing.

FRAUD UNDER $5000 X 5

Cornwall, ON – Kendra Czerwinski, 29, of Cornwall was arrested on February 20th, 2019 and charged with fraud under $5000 x 5. It is alleged on February 1st, 2019, the woman fraudulently collected rent money from tenants and failed to provide the money to the property owner. Police were contacted and an investigation ensued. On February 20th, 2019, the woman attended police headquarters to deal with the matter. She was taken into custody, charged accordingly, and released to appear in court on March 20th, 2019.

Cornwall, ON – A 30-year-old Cornwall woman was arrested on February 22nd, 2019 and charged with mischief under $5000. It is alleged during an argument with her boyfriend, the woman damaged cologne bottles belonging to him and police were contacted to investigate. On February 22nd, 2019, the woman was taken into custody, charged accordingly and released to appear in court on March 5th, 2019. Her name was not released as it would identify the victim in the matter.

Cornwall, ON – Robert Patenaude, 55, of Cornwall was arrested on February 22nd, 2019 and charged with theft under $5000. It is alleged on February 9th, 2019, the man attended a Ninth Street business and removed merchandise, making no attempt to pay for the items as he left the store. Police were contacted and an investigation ensued. On February 22nd, 2019, the man was taken into custody, charged accordingly, and released to appear in court on March 26th, 2019.

UNLAWFULLY IN A DWELLING

Cornwall, ON – A 48-year-old Cornwall woman was arrested on February 22nd, 2019 and charged with being unlawfully in a dwelling. It is alleged on February 20th, 2019, the woman entered the residence of her boyfriend and refused to leave. Police were contacted and an investigation ensued. On February 22nd, 2019, the woman was taken into custody, charged accordingly and released to appear in court on March 5th, 2019. Cornwall, ON – Amanda Tryon, 28, of Cornwall was arrested on February 22nd, 2019 and charged with breach of recognizance for failing to sign in, as well as breach of probation for failing to keep the peace. It is alleged the woman failed to sign in to police on February 22nd, 2019 and an investigation ensued. During the investigation, the woman was taken into custody, charged accordingly and held for a bail hearing.

WARRANT, THEFT UNDER $5000, RESIST ARREST, BREACH

Cornwall, ON – Tyanna Tessier, 28, of Cornwall was arrested on February 23rd, 2019 on the strength of a warrant for failing to appear for prints. She was also charged with the following:

• Theft under $5000 x 5
• Breach of probation x 5
• Resist arrest

It is alleged throughout the month of February the woman attended two Ninth Street businesses, a Tenth Street business and a Marleau Avenue business and removed merchandise, making no attempt to pay for the items as she left the stores. Police were contacted and an investigation ensued. On February 23rd, 2019, police located the woman during a traffic stop, at which time she exited the vehicle and ran from police. She was taken into custody, charged accordingly and held for a bail hearing.

IMPAIRED, OVER 80

Cornwall, ON – Andre Laperle, 38, of Cornwall was arrested on February 23rd, 2019 and charged with impaired operation of a motor vehicle and over 80. It is alleged the man was operating a motor vehicle while under the influence of alcohol in the area Anthony Street and an investigation ensued. During the investigation, he was taken into custody, charged accordingly and released to appear in court on March 12th, 2019.

CARE & CONTROL, OVER 80

Cornwall, ON – Warren House, 48, of Hudson, QC was arrested on February 24th, 2019 and charged with care and control of a motor vehicle and over 80. It is alleged while in the area of Pitt Street and Second Street, the man was found to be in care and control of a motor vehicle while under the influence of alcohol. During the investigation, he was taken into custody, charged accordingly and released to appear in court on March 12th, 2019.

THEFT UNDER $5000, BREACH

Cornwall, ON – Mark Tyo, 34, of Cornwall was arrested on February 24th, 2019 and charged with theft under $5000 x 3 and breach of probation and undertaking for failing to keep the peace. It is alleged on three separate dates in February, the man attended a Ninth Street business and removed merchandise, making no attempt to pay for the items as he left the store. Police were contacted and an investigation ensued. On February 24th, 2019, the man was taken into custody, charged accordingly, and held for a bail hearing.

POSSESSION OF A PROHIBITED WEAPON

Cornwall, ON – Andrew Dover, 30, of Cowansville, QC was arrested on February 24th, 2019 and charged with possession of brass knuckles. It is alleged the man was found to be in possession of brass knuckles when he was stopped at the Port of Entry on February 24th, 2019. Police were contacted and an investigation ensued. During the investigation the man was taken into custody, charged accordingly and released to appear in court on March 28th, 2019.

ATTEMPT ARSON, THREATS

Cornwall, ON – A 14-year-old Cornwall youth was arrested on February 24th, 2019 and charged with arson and threats. It is alleged on February 24th, 2019, the youth poured gasoline on the floor boards of his grandmother’s residence and made threats to burn the property. Police were called and an investigation ensued. During the investigation, the youth was taken into custody, charged accordingly and released to appear in court at a later date. His name was not released as per provisions of the Youth Criminal Justice Act.

ASSAULT WITH A WEAPON, ASSAULT CAUSE BODILY HARM

Cornwall, ON – A 60-year-old Cornwall man was arrested on February 26th, 2019 and charged with assault with a weapon and assault cause bodily harm. It is alleged on January 16th, 2019, the man assaulted his sister with an umbrella, causing her to seek medical attention for her injuries. Police were contacted and an investigation ensued. On February 26th, 2019, the man was taken into custody, charged accordingly and released to appear in court on March 28th, 2019. His name was not released as it would identify the victim in the matter.

WARRANT, CARRY A CONCEALED WEAPON

Cornwall, ON – Stephane Leclair, 44, of Cornwall was arrested on February 26th, 2019 on the strength of a warrant. He was also charged with carrying a concealed weapon. It is alleged the man failed to attend court on November 29th, 2018 for driving while disqualified and a warrant was issued for his arrest. On February 26th, 2019, the man was taken into custody on the strength of the warrant, at which time he was found to be in possession of a knife. He was charged accordingly and held for a bail hearing.

On February 26th, 2019, the woman attended police headquarters to deal with the matter. She was taken into custody, charged accordingly, and released to appear in court on March 28th, 2019. Cornwall, ON – Christopher Benedict, 38, of Akwesasne was arrested on February 27th, 2019 on the strength of a warrant. It is alleged the man was in possession of a stolen vehicle and a warrant was issued for his arrest. On February 27th, 2019, the man was stopped at the Port of Entry and police were contacted. He was taken into custody on the strength of the warrant and released to appear in court on March 28th, 2019.

Cornwall, ON – Joel Sarault, 21, of Cornwall was arrested on February 27th, 2019 and charged with theft under $5000, as well as breach of undertaking and probation for failing to keep the peace. It is alleged on February 27th, 2019, the man attended a Water Street business and removed merchandise, making no attempt to pay for the item as he left the store. Police were contacted and an investigation ensued. During the investigation, the man was taken into custody, charged accordingly, and released to appear in court on March 28th, 2019.

DANGEROUS OPERATION OF A MOTOR VEHICLE

Cornwall, ON – Mathieu Mainville, 20, of Cornwall was arrested on February 27th, 2019 and charged with dangerous operation of a motor vehicle. It is alleged the man was operating a motorcycle in a dangerous manner in the area of Nick Kaneb Drive and Marleau Avenue and an investigation ensued. Cornwall, ON – Stephen Lafave, 36, of Cornwall was arrested on March 1st, 2019 on the strength of a warrant. It is alleged the man breached his undertaking by attending within 100 metres of a certain address and failing to notify a change of address to police. An investigation ensued and a warrant was issued for his arrest. On March 1st, 2019, he was taken into custody on the strength of the warrant and held for a bail hearing.

THREATS X 2, MISCHIEF UNDER $5000, BREACH

Cornwall, ON – Zachary McKinnon, 27, of Cornwall was arrested on March 1st, 2019 and charged with threats x 2, mischief under $5000, as well as breach of probation for possessing unlawful drugs and for failing to keep the peace. It is alleged on March 1st, 2019, while at a local hotel, the man damaged a cabinet in his room, as well as made threats to kill a man unknown to him and burn down the hotel. Police were contacted and an investigation ensued. During the investigation, the man was taken into custody, at which time he was found to be in possession of a quantity of Xanax pills. He was charged accordingly and held for a bail hearing.

Cornwall, ON – Robert Hart, 36, of Cornwall was arrested on March 1st, 2019 and charged with breach of undertaking for being within 50 metres of a certain address. It is alleged on March 1st, 2019, while investigating an unrelated matter, the man was located in a certain address, despite his conditions, and an investigation ensued. During the investigation, he was taken into custody, charged accordingly, and held for a bail hearing.

POSSESSION OF CONTROLLED SUBSTANCES, POSSESSION OF PROPERTY OBTAINED BY CRIME, POSSESSION FOR THE PURPOSE OF TRAFFICKING, BREACH

Cornwall, ON – Lochard Jean-Jacques, 27 of Quebec was arrested on March 2nd, 2019 and charged with the following:

• Possession of methamphetamine
• Possession for the purpose of trafficking methamphetamine
• Possession of cocaine
• Possession of ecstasy (MDMA)
• Possession of property obtained by crime
• Breach of probation (for failing to keep the peace)

It is alleged on March 2nd, 2019, the man was stopped at the Port of Entry and found to be in possession of a quantity of methamphetamine pills, cocaine, and MDMA. Police were contacted and took the man into custody. He was charged accordingly and held for a bail hearing.

Cornwall, ON – Michelle David, 33, of Cornwall was arrested on March 2nd, 2019 and charged with breach of recognizance for failing to remain in her residence. It is alleged during a traffic stop on March 2nd, 2019, police located the woman in breach of her conditions and an investigation ensued. During the investigation, she was taken into custody, charged accordingly and held for a bail hearing.

MISCHIEF UNDER $5000 X 2, BREACH

Cornwall, ON – Brent Fisher, 23, of Cornwall was arrested on March 3rd, 2019 and charged with mischief under $5000 x 2, as well as breach of probation for leaving his residence after consuming alcohol. It is alleged on March 2nd, 2019, he attended the residence of a man known to him and damaged lawn furniture and police were contacted to investigate. On March 3rd, 2019, the man returned to the area and damaged two tables belonging to another man who was known to him. Police attended and located the intoxicated man, at which time he was taken into custody, charged accordingly, and released to appear in court on April 11th, 2019.

TRAFFICKING IN CONTRABAND TOBACCO

Cornwall, ON – Scott Kenny, 30, of Cornwall was arrested on March 3rd, 2019 and charged with trafficking in contraband tobacco. It is alleged during a traffic stop on March 3rd, 2019, police located a quantity of contraband tobacco in the motor vehicle and an investigation ensued. During the investigation, the man was taken into custody, charged accordingly, and released to appear in court on April 9th, 2019.

BREACH

Cornwall, ON – Ceara Veldhoven, 22, of Cornwall was arrested on March 3rd, 2019 and charged with breach of undertaking for associating with someone known to have a criminal record and for failing to keep the peace. This morning members of the Cornwall Police Service are assisting the North Bay Police Service with a threats complaint. At this point in time, the statement made by the involved party is deemed to be non-criminal in nature. There is no concern for public safety and the investigation is still ongoing at this time.

Cornwall, ON – Aronhientha Benedict-Oakes, 22, of Akwesasne was arrested on March 6th, 2019 and charged with the following:

• Possession of over 30 grams of cannabis in a public place
• Breach of undertaking (for failing to keep the peace)
• Breach of recognizance (for possessing drugs, for having the care and control of a motor vehicle, and for failing to keep the peace)

Cornwall, ON – A 21-year-old Cornwall woman was arrested on March 5th, 2019 and charged with mischief under $5000 and breach of probation for failing to keep the peace. It is alleged during an argument with her parents, the woman damaged a window in the residence and police were contacted to investigate. During the investigation, the woman was taken into custody, charged accordingly and released to appear in court on April 9th, 2019. Cornwall, ON – Kanento Boots, 65, of Akwesasne was arrested on March 5th, 2019 on the strength of a warrant. It is alleged the man failed to attend court on February 25th, 2019 for an impaired offence and a warrant was issued for his arrest. It is alleged during an argument with her boyfriend on February 28th, 2019, the woman assaulted him and police were contacted to investigate. Cornwall, ON – Gregory Malenfant, 32, of Cornwall was arrested on March 8th, 2019 and charged with breach of probation for being within 100 metres of a certain address, attending a certain street, and failing to keep the peace. It is alleged on March 7th, 2019, the man attended a certain address, despite his conditions, and an investigation ensued. On March 8th, 2019, he was taken into custody, charged accordingly, and released to appear in court on April 11th, 2019.

Charges Laid Against School Lunch Supervisor for Sex-Related Offences

(Ottawa) — Today, the Ottawa Police Service Sexual Assault and Child Abuse Section (SACA) laid charges of Sexual Assault and Sexual Interference and Uttering Threats against a 23 year old male, Zacharie ROSEMBERT, of Ottawa, Ontario. 

The charges stem from incidents that occurred between February 2018 and May 2018, while the accused was employed as a lunch supervisor with the Conseil des écoles publiques de l’Est de l’Ontario by a school located in the Vanier/Overbrook area. 

He will appear in court on March 16, 2019. 

The Ottawa Police continues its investigation and is concerned there could be more victims. 

“The Ottawa Police will respect a victim’s wishes to pursue or not pursue the matter before the courts. The reporting of these incidents by victims to police is key for investigators to identify suspects and determine crime trends.”

(SOUTH GLENGARRY,ON) – An arrest has been made as the result of an historical sexual assault investigation conducted by members of the Stormont Dundas & Glengarry Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP, assisted by the SD&G OPP Crime Unit.

Gilles DESLAURIERS, 79 years of age, of Vercheres, Quebec was arrested March 12, 2019. He faces charges of:

– Indecent Assault on a Male (2 counts)

These charges are in relation to alleged incidents involving a young male victim, dating back to 1976.

The accused was released and is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Alexandria April 3, 2019.

Bank St Incident Leads to Dogs Being Shot by Ottawa Police 03199

Aggressive dog shot by officers during an attack

 (Ottawa) –The Ottawa Police Service is advising of an incident in the area of Bank Street and Athans Avenue late last night just prior to 11:00pm. 

Frontline officers attended the residential area regarding a person screaming.  Once on-scene, a large aggressive dog lunged towards the officers. As a result, this dog was shot and injured causing it to retreat into the residence. 

Officers’ attention was then turned to another large dog who was mauling a person outside the residence.  Officers shot and killed this dog to prevent it from further injuring this person.   The 44 year old female was transported to hospital with serious but non life-threatening injuries.   

No officers were injured during this incident.  Ottawa By-law Services continue to investigate this incident.
