Calls for Service

Kingston Police had 119 calls for service during the 24 hour period starting from 5:00 a.m. on October 1, 2018. Of these, 86 calls occurred in the city central area, 26 in the west end, 2 in the east end, and 2 north of Highway 401. Some of these included:

  • 10 domestic calls
  • 4 assault calls
  • 1 sexual assault
  • 4 harassment calls
  • 3 fight/disturbance calls
  • 11 undesirable calls
  • 1 custody dispute call
  • 3 alarm calls
  • 1 noise complaint
  • 3 missing person calls
  • 2 Mental Health Act calls
  • 3 medical assist calls
  • 4 assist citizen calls
  • 3 break and enter calls
  • 5 theft calls
  • 1 shoplifting call
  • 5 motor vehicle collisions
  • 5 driving complaints
  • 13 suspicious activity calls
  • 1 drug call

There were 3 individuals arrested within the last 24 hours including 2 men and 1 woman, between 20 and 45 years of age, for the following: two counts of possession for the purpose of trafficking, possession of property obtained by crime, and break and enter. One person was arrested on a warrant.

To further community awareness and improve accessibility to calls-for-police-service occurring in the community, Kingston Police has merged Geographic Information Systems (GIS) technology with police calls-for-service data for user-friendly public consumption.

19-Year-Old Arrested for Drug Trafficking after Vehicle Stop

On September 27, 2018 at approximately 11:15 p.m. a patrol officer conducted a vehicle stop on Bath Road at Palace Road. Upon speaking with the three occupants the officer immediately detected a strong odour of marijuana. All three persons were arrested and while searching a male passenger and his backpack, officers discovered hundreds of small empty blue bags, digital scales, Imodium tablets, a large sum of Canadian currency, two large zip lock bags of suspected marijuana, and several sandwich sized baggies containing suspected cocaine.

The driver and second passenger were released unconditionally. The accused was transported to police headquarters where he was held to attend a bail hearing the following day.

A 19-year-old local man is charged with two counts of possession for the purpose of trafficking, and possession of property obtained by crime.

In total over 255 grams of marijuana, over 30 grams of cocaine, and just over $3000 in currency was seized.




Security System Alerts Home Owner of Break and Enter in Progress

On October 1, 2018 at approximately 9:55 a.m. while at work, the complainant received a home security alert on his cellphone. The complaint was able to access video surveillance and view the accused attempting the break into his home through a kitchen window. Officers responded to the west end home and located the accused in the backyard of the residence.

The accused was arrested and transported to police headquarters where he was held to attend a bail hearing the following day.

A 45-year-old local man is charged with break and enter.

YIPI – Youth In Policing Initiative

Kingston Police, with funding made available through the Ministry of Children and Youth Services, is again offering part-time school-year employment through the Youth In Policing Initiative (YIPI).

The YIPI program is setup for youth 15-18 years of age who are attending school in the Kingston area. The goal is to give young people an opportunity to develop job skills while enhancing police and community relations.

The school-year YIPI program session runs from November to June 2019. For 10 hours per week, the participants will work in various sections of the Kingston Police service, support community initiatives and learn valuable life and employment skills. YIPI participants will also have a working relationship with a number of valuable youth-serving organizations in Kingston.

The application deadline is October 23, 2018 at 4:00 p.m. Applications can be accessed by clicking the link below or picked-up at the front desk of police headquarters at 705 Division Street. Completed applications can be submitted at the front desk to the attention of Constable Carolyn Gauthier or to her e-mail at cgauthier@kingstonpolice.ca.

Low-level flying at the Former Rockwood Asylum

October 2, 2018 – Ottawa – National Defence / Canadian Armed Forces

The Canadian Armed Forces in conjunction with local law enforcement colleagues will conduct a military training event at the former Rockwood Asylum in Kingston, Ontario on October 3, 2018. Residents be advised that there will be higher noise levels and low-level CH-146 and CH-147F helicopters flying for the duration of these training activities.

In the interest of public safety, people are asked to avoid the immediate vicinity while Canadian Armed Forces personnel conduct their training.
